City-Wide Litter Clean-Up – Join us on March 29th at the Downtown location to pitch in for this bi-annual event to help clean up & beautify our city. Trash bags and refreshments will be available at Bossanova, 112 W. 3rd Street, from 8am to Noon. Hosts will be on-hand to direct volunteers towards the areas that are in need of the most attention. Free Workshop on the “Bad Check Program” offered by the State’s Attorney’s office and SCORE – on April 3rd from 9:00 – 10:30, Marketplace will co-host this educational seminar with Meridian Bank in the bank’s conference room at 200 W. 3rd Street. Learn more about this successful program which is set up to assist small business owners collect on bad checks before turning the offender over for prosecution. The benefits to a business are: the program is completely free, there is a simple form to complete and there is no minimum amount requirement on the check to be collected.
Alton Farmers' & Artisans Market – every Saturday from May 31st to September 27th (8am to noon) find an abundance of delicious fresh produce, crafts, baked goods, plants & flowers, handmade soaps, jewelry, artwork, pottery, art demonstrations, & more. Children’s activities the 1st Sat. of every month sponsored by the Community Cultivators! Have breakfast at the market – coffee & breakfast items are available at the Marketplace booth. Celebration of Broadway / All-Wheels Drive-In Car Show - Bring the family downtown on Saturday, June 21st from 10-4 to enjoy sidewalk sales & activities all along Broadway. Come join in the good time & help Broadway merchants celebrate their years in business - special sales & promotions all weekend long! On Sunday, June 22nd from 8-4, we will be closing the street for the 12th Annual All-Wheels Drive-In Car Show co-sponsored by Time Machines Auto Club. Classic cars & hot rods line the street; plus food vendors, crafts, and more - don't miss the fun!
It’s Our River Day – Join Marketplace & the Sierra Club at Alton’s beautiful Riverfront Park on Saturday, September 20th from 9am-4pm for Alton’s 2nd annual river festival. Enjoy music, food, and nature craft vendors, learn about native plants & animals at informational eco-booths, visit fun educational activities, participate in a litter clean-up on land or water, and celebrate life on the Mississippi River!
Challenge of the Bluffs Run – Come downtown and cheer on the runners at this USA Track & Field Sanctioned event! The race starts in front of the Marketplace office (Broadway & Alby) on October 4th at 9:00 am. The 5-mile competitive run or 2-mile walk route heads to the top of the Mississippi Bluffs and back along a hilly and scenic route. Water stations are available at the 1-mile and 3-mile markers. Post-race refreshments and awards ceremony immediately following race, at Mac's Time-Out Lounge near the finish line (4th & Belle).

Lincoln-Douglas Sesquicentennial Celebration – Lincoln-Douglas Square will be full of activity on the weekend of October 18th (10-5) and 19th (12-4). Broadway will be closed to traffic from Market St. to Easton St ., and festival-goers will enjoy the traveling debate exhibit, debate re-enactments, music, food and arts & crafts vendors, family activities & much more!
Lighting of the Christmas Tree with Santa & Business After Hours Hosted at the Stratford Hotel – Friday, November 21st (starting at 6:00pm) Come down to Lincoln-Douglas Square for the Community Christmas Tree lighting & Holiday Carnival on Broadway! Enjoy photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus, trolley rides, hot chocolate & cookies at the Salvation Army canteen, music, live reindeer and other festivities. Marketplace will also be hosting the Growth Association’s “Business After Hours” event this evening at the Hotel Stratford.
